As if The Roots haven?t been criticized enough for playing Fishbone?s ?Lyin? Ass Bitch? during the introduction to Tea Partier Michelle Bachmann on ?Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,? now NBC is requiring that Questlove clear every walk-on song with three different people. Also, they require that he never tweet about the Republican presidential candidate ever again.
Just when they thought the apologies were over. Questlove already admitted that the comic effect wasn?t worth the backlash he faced. And Fallon also told Rolling Stone that the incident was a bummer:
?it was a real bummer that it happened. We don?t want to censor anyone, but?I don?t know. Maybe Questlove is a Romney guy.?
Apparently the jokes aren?t over either. So we?re hoping The Roots will be able to keep up their usual cleverness with the walk-on songs. Questlove has told the Associated Press that he has no hard feelings toward NBC over it, as he says, ?I understand from a business standpoint.? He also clarifies that they just want the title of the song and subject matter of the song, which isn?t a big deal for him to provide. But seriously, would they need to clear it with three people? Why can?t the first person determine whether it?d be offensive or not?
Do you think The Roots deserve the backlash they?ve received?
